Since the mid 1960's St. Vincent de Paul has been active in providing shelter to Green Bay residents in need.

In the beginning Vincentians would take up a collection in order to put someone up at a local hotel.

As time went on it became apparent that a organized program was needed to deal with the growing shelter concerns in the community.

De Paul Homes and Shelters has 6 homes at the Webster Doty Street Campus.

The program has also expanded to include the House of Hope, a remodeled nursing home located on Christiana St. on Green Bay's west side.

The House of Hope is a program providing safe, stable housing and support to parenting and/or pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 24 years of age and their children.

St. Vincent de Paul's permanent, supportive housing program is aimed at families with children (with some exceptions possible) that are ineligible for other housing subsidies (i.e. HCV Program, HUD Housing, etc.) and are looking for long-term housing options (1 year minimum).

Households must pay a $100.00 damage deposit (can be paid in "installments") and a monthly program fee, equal to approximately 25% of their household income.  Utilities are included.  Appliances are also provided.

In special circumstances, local phone service can be set up by SVdP and the additional cost will be added to the monthly program fee for residents that are unable to get service in their name and have no cell phone.  Free laundry facilities are available on-site.

Participation in budget counseling and/or a debt management program is required throughout their stay.  Weekly home visits with a SVdP representative are also required.  Over time, home visits may be done on a monthly or "as needed" basis.

It's helpful to know if an agency is referring someone to this program - especially if they have had a "history" of working with the client/family.  Prospective residents can contact Mary Marks at 965-0129 to get more information/discuss eligibility.

The program fee is non-refundable; however, the damage deposit will be refunded at time of exit if the unit is left in good condition.  The cost of repairing any "malicious" damage done to the property during a family's stay will be deducted from the damage deposit.

Adults just out of or currently involved in a treatment program and/or those families in need of intense case management would not be appropriate for this program.

All donations are tax-deductible and all proceeds go directly to helping the needy in the Green Bay area.
