Green Bay Medical & Sewing Mission
Serving Those in Need
The Green Bay Medical & Sewing Mission is a group of volunteers making a difference in the lives of people around the world who are in need, by finding ways to be of service.
Green Bay Medical & Sewing Mission was formed by Bev Olson and Kay Daugherty, both registered nurses employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay, WI. Bev and Kay had worked with medical teams in third-world countries, where they witnessed extreme poverty and were determined to make a difference in the lives of these, the neediest people in the world (including the USA).
Salvaging usable medical supplies that were routinely discarded at the hospital, they began to collect and send these supplies to places where they were desperately needed. As word spread, Olson and Daugherty received so many responses, they soon grew out of the space provided by St. Mary’s Hospital. Five relocations later, Green Bay Medical & Sewing Mission has a home, with space donated by St. Vincent de Paul.
Nineteen countries and several US states have been recipients of supplies which are donated by area hospitals, clinics, individuals, and local organizations. Green Bay Medical & Sewing Mission partners with many other medical mission agencies to get the supplies in the hands of those in need.
A group of women gather together each Tuesday & Thursday to sew clothing and other items that are desperately needed by children and adults in many countries. Some of the items that are sewn are: Baby gowns, diapers, children’s clothing, blankets, and backpacks.
Our faithful volunteers transport, sort, and organize medical supplies in preparation for the shipment of these much needed items to places all around the world!
Green Bay Medical & Sewing Mission accepts “almost anything” that is still useable, such as: personal items, shampoo, soaps, lotions, unused toothbrushes, toothpaste, school supplies, towels, washcloths, and all sewing supplies and notions. Medical supplies needed include things such as: Band-Aids, alcohol wipes, hand sanitizer, Tylenol, ibuprofen, pressure stockings (TEDs), ACE bandages, canes, walkers, shower chairs, wheelchairs – you name it, we can take it!
Even gently used items can be donated.
We are unable to accept any medical supplies which require doctor’s orders, such as: prescription medications, CPAP machines, post-surgical ice machines, oxygen tubing, inhalers, etc.
To our long-term donors, we want to express our sincere appreciation. You have enabled us to make a difference in the lives of some of the neediest people in the world.
To our new donors, we also want to say thank you and extend a warm welcome to share in the work of Green Bay Medical & Sewing Mission.
