Webster and Doty Street Campus
Since the mid 1960's St. Vincent de Paul has been active in providing shelter to Green Bay residents in need.
In the beginning Vincentians would take up a collection in order to put someone up at a local hotel.
As time went on it became apparent that a organized program was needed to deal with the growing shelter concerns in the community.
The program in place today got its start on November 8, 1990.
Vincentians Everett Johnson and Carl Farah proposed the De Paul Homes project to the SVdP District Council.
The proposal was to purchase 4 homes to be used for interim housing. All support for the program would come from St. Vincent de Paul.
In March of 1991 ballots were cast regarding the housing project, and on a vote of 11 yes and 9 no, the project was approved.
In May of that same year, the bid made for the four homes located at Webster and Doty St. was accepted. This program is now called De Paul Homes & Shelters.
De Paul Homes and Shelters now has 6 homes at the Webster Doty Street Campus.
The program has also expanded to include the House of Hope, a remodeled nursing home located on Christiana St. on Green Bay's west side.
The House of Hope is a program providing safe, stable housing and support to parenting and/or pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 24 years of age and their children.
The poor alone demand your time; treat them with gentleness, with love. They are the nobility of heaven.
